1001 Albums Summary

Nothing remarkable. The voice sounds like Pink Floyd. May be good as a background music, but isn't worth it to hear actively. After finishing the album I can't remember any melody or words. Although the sound is boring, all songs form a whole, consistent album. The only situation, I can imagine liking this album, is sipping a cold whiskey, while watching a sunset on a terrace

At first, as I saw the cover and year, I thought, it would be a torture to finish the album. But the very first song turned this misconception over. Very funky melody, nice voice and a great dynamic. The songs are very smooth, but don't get boring - the band manages to keep the listener interested by adding the variety and never letting the melody to slip into monotonicity, while not breaking the groove. After getting to the middle of the album, I was concerned, Al Green already showed off, everything he had, and the rest would be not that fascinating to hear. But my expectations have been proved wrong again. From the very funky first half he went to rather melancholic middle and a very well rounding last part. After 56 years the album still sounds fresh, which is a real quality mark. It definetely has the right to be in the list not just of 1001, but 100 best albums of all time

The recording quality is terrible. I wasn't able to hear more than 2 songs in a row. Almost every sentence drives the mic to overdrive. And the harmonica solos are a special kind of torture. Maybe the song texts have deep meanings? - I don't know, as a non-native speaker I struggled to follow the words due to horrible sound quality. If this album would be re-recorded, it may stand a chance, but in this state it's just unhearable.

Good album with soft and viscous sound. The conceptual environmental breaks were refreshing. It was pleasant to hear, but the album lacks overall variability - melodically too simple for my ears.
