Day 1: I physically cannot say anything about this album that hasn’t already been said, but I don’t care. It’s a piece of art, it ushered in the concept album and art rock as a genre, it defined the Summer of Love, and it’s deeply personal to me, being something I literally grew up with. I think this is the first album I ever remember hearing, before I even really understood what an album was. My parents introduced to me when I was 5 or 6, I think. I remember singing a clean version of “With a Little Help From My Friends” for elementary school concerts. And it’s also the album that reintroduced me to the Beatles when I saw a video about the process of recording “A Day in the Life;” I watched that video, snuck downstairs, and took my dad’s copy of the album (along with some other Beatles albums.) I took those albums up to my room with my suitcase record player (which I have since upgraded!) and I listened through almost the whole thing, loved every second of it, then I listened to Abbey Road, then the American version of Revolver, and I haven’t looked back since. Best album ever recorded and I will die on this hill.
