Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin
Aug 18 2026

While I'm not the world's biggest Zeppelin fan, this is undeniably a good album. Eight great songs, no filler, no skips. (Minus one star because Zep have historically 'borrowed' a lot from relatively unknown black musicians who don't usually see any royalties)

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Aug 19 2026

Great album from a great band. Very compelling mix of classic blues and r&b riffs with a unique Songhoy flair. Desert blues is always a great listen -- but even more so here where the music is a form of resistance. Ai Tchere Bele is a favorite on my first listen. The drum beat is a bit of a departure from the more straightforward bluesy grooves so far. And that bassline is incredible. You can really hear the layered peices of the band all weaving together on this track. Reminds me of some afrobeat tunes in that way. Wayei is another favorite, for many of the same reasons. Really wish I could find a good translation of the lyrics -- but, no luck so far.

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Aug 21 2026

Definitely iconic; but not one of my all time favorites. Maybe one of those records whose influence is better than the actual album itself? The production, while iconic, gets a bit repetitive. Snoop carries a lot of the songs here too. But all that said, there are still some absolutley legendary tracks on here (Let Me Ride, Nothin' But A G Thang, Lil' Ghetto Boy), and you can't ignore the mark this record made. I'm wishing there were half stars here; this feels better than a 3 but not quite a 4.
