Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Aug 19 2026

A few seconds into this project, I sensed that I was in for something great. By the time I got to the third track, I could envision myself listening to this album countless times throughout my life. There was a particular itch I’ve been feeling while listening to more extreme metal albums such as <You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To>, <Maze Envy>, and <A Distant, Violent Shudder>. This album scratched that spot. I suppose I’m being presented with the somewhat conventional ancestor of the metal albums of this decade, and I’m all for it. <Black Sabbath> has a way of overwhelming the listener without compromising its simplicity. The sound palette is organized and consistent. There is no point in which too many instruments are being played at once, and vocals are used only when necessary. Furthermore, the project alternates between dark and bright atmospheres effectively, keeping the progression interesting. Great listen.
