Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Aug 24 2026

This is the first time I've listened to this full album in at least 25 years. Looking at the cover, I tried to remember what year it was from, and was correct in that it was "late zeppelin" ('75). It's in that point where they've started making the music that interests them. You can tell that several tracks were heavily influenced by native British folk music, and by less conventional blues rock. And touches of influences they picked up in their world travels. It reminds me that I still don't really like "rock" music, but they truly made some of the most interesting and influential of it. It's at its best when they're experimenting the most. 8/10

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar

Everyone knows I love repetitive music. But it needs to grow, and in unexpected ways. This is in the spectrum of street rap that I'm just not interested in. Sort of the same issues I have R&B: it's just not interesting. Listening to the lyrics, I can applaud his going outside cultural comfort zones to tell unflattering stories of the life, and criticisms of things others hold up as virtue. But ultimately, it's just not interesting enough, doesn't break enough out of the mold. 6/10
