obviously i've heard the singles a thousand times but never actually listened to the full album. i can really see how they changed punk music with this one and basically paved the way for pop punk. i think When I Come Around is still my favorite song, always loved the bassline. outro to chump and transition to longview is killer. i actually think my favorite solo on the album is the one on coming clean. great song as well. a lot of the deep cuts are meh but the highs are high..

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground

pretty good. i've heard their first two albums already so I kind of know where they're coming from with this. The first two really stood out because they were experimental and nobody else really sounded like that at the time. this album, by comparison, seems a lot more conventional/aligned with popular taste of the time, but I still think its good. i think the second half started to drag a little, and The Murder Mystery is the weakest point, really did nothing for me and was a little annoying to listen to. they had experimental tracks on their first two albums that are a lot more well done in my opinion. highlights for me are candy says, after hours, pale blue eyes, and what goes on is probably my favorite track, absolutely bangin.

Heroes by David Bowie

Pretty solid album love Heroes of course i think its a beautiful song. Beauty and the beast was an amazing unexpected start to the album and the lyrics are interesting being inspired by his heroin addiction. Guitar riff/ tone on blackout is insane love it. The final track having almost a disco sound to it was pretty neat. Honestly reading the lyrics and story behind the album gave it a lot of depth. What sticks out here are the ambient/instrumental tracks on the second half. I will say I think they're interesting experimentation but detract from the album a bit for me. Standout from those would be Moss Garden. Overall fav songs Heroes and Blackout. 4.5 stars (4 on site)

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes

I think the first thing everyone will say listening to this album is that this is WAY ahead of its time. Edgy songwriting that wouldnt become commonplace until the 90s. Killer bass lines here. They had a really unique sound for the time basically inventing folk punk. Favorite tracks: blister in the sun obviously, kiss off, gone daddy gone, and good feeling. Love the piano and the strings on the last track. Which lowkey feels velvet underground inspired

It can be kind of hard to judge rap music in another language when its such a lyrical genre. for this rating im mostly basing off of the flows and beats which are pretty decent. I do think the language lends itself pretty well to rap music but not something i'd be interested in diving deeper into necessarily. like the higher energy tracks like quartier nord and the reggae track near the end. think my overall favorite was A temps partiel. 2.5 stars for me
