1001 Albums Summary

good but it felt too "smooth" for me, i don't think there was a track that really grabbed my attention. favorite track was think (instrumental)

dookie... to my ears it's very soft punk. frankly it doesnt sound like shit enough! too melodic and not angry enough. if i were listening to it at a venue, in a crowd, id probably think its fine, but its not the sort of thing id put on to listen to on my own. favorite track is probably welcome to paradise.

very sedate, easier to listen to than the velvet underground and nico. favorite track is probably the murder mystery or after hours.

heroes is a banger. every david bowie album i have listened to sounds noticeably different and is also a banger and this is no exception. how did he do it man? but ive kind of worked backwards through his discography so this is my first time listening to heroes even though it is one of his most famous/influential albums and its weird hearing stuff other, later musicians referenced. momus singing "kiss you in the rain..." i like the second half of the album where its all atmospheric instrumental stuff better but blackout is clearly the best track and has amazing frenetic energy. i regret giving velvet underground a 4/5 because this is way better.

violent femmes is a nostalgia trip. my mom was in a punk band (or i guess several?) when she was younger and i think that influenced my taste in a lot of ways. i remember she always used to have them on in the car- there are so many of these songs that are just like instantly snap me back. blister in the sun, please do not go... i guess if im trying to evaluate it fairly, normally i like things that are noisier, less calm, less lyrical. folk punk sounds more folk than punk to me. but i cant hate on the violent femmes.
