The album captures the essence of the 2000s incredibly well. It sounds exactly like how I would imagine my young adult years to sound, which makes nostalgia probably its biggest strength. The first half starts very promising, but after the first six tracks, the sound becomes increasingly repetitive and monotonous, to the point where it starts to feel like you’re listening to one very long track. Aside from “Jenny Was A Friend of Mine”, “Mr. Brightside”, and “Somebody Told Me,” most of the tracks weren’t particularly memorable to me. And those three tracks are the ones I would most likely add to my playlist. It is a great example of alternative/indie rock, but at the same time, it somehow feels like having unseasoned boiled chicken. There is nothing particularly wrong with it, but I kept wishing it had more flavor. Therefore, most of the tracks landed around a 5-6 for me. Also, I genuinely thought this band was British before listening to the album, so I was shocked to find out they’re actually from Las Vegas. The British post-punk and synth-pop influence is HEAVY on this one, it almost feels like it prevented them from developing their own distinct sound.
