1001 Albums Summary

Going into this album after years of not listening was an interesting experience. Appetite for Destruction has aged like the 30 year old Miller Lite can in the back of your old man's fridge... but you know what? Sometimes it's ok to say fuck it and crack that ol' stale boy open. Initially, my hope was to go in with renewed virgin ears and a fresh perspective, but the grip of nostalgia this album has is too tight to escape. Truthfully, I couldn't care less if the content has aged poorly or if mechanically there is better skill to be found elsewhere. Slash shreds. Axl Rose's vocals here are classic, gritty, and timeless. From front to back this album is a great fucking time. Let your hair down and your head bang.

In more recent years, Flavor Flav’s persona has set himself apart from the history and impact Public Enemy has had in the hip hop world. He will always and forever be one of the greatest DJs and hype men to grace the wax, but the beats alone can’t take all the credit here. Chuck D’s lyricism is equally powerful here. The content is explosive, powerful, direct, and nearly every song has staying power. It’s an incredible album that stands the test of time and is a prime example of hip hop at an all time high.
