Young Americans by David Bowie
Oct 22 2026

Very funky/R&B vibe. As with most Bowie I've heard, it's hit or miss, despite me loving his vocals and whole vibe. Some of the songs are quite long. I liked Fascination, Right, and Across the Universe. Would listen to selections but probably not the whole thing again. Young Americans is the ninth studio album by David Bowie. The album marked a departure from the glam rock style of Bowie's previous albums, showcasing his interest in soul and R&B. Bowie himself labelled the album's sound "plastic soul". Bowie had mixed feelings about the album throughout his lifetime. Nevertheless, Bowie biographers have considered it one of his most influential records, mainly noting him as among the first white musicians of the era to overtly engage with black musical styles.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Oct 23 2026

I really wanted to love this one, but Tusk was really the only standout. There were others I liked okay but they sounded fairly similar. Rumors this is not. Tusk is the twelfth studio album by the British and American rock band Fleetwood Mac. It is considered more experimental than their previous albums, partly as a consequence of Lindsey Buckingham's sparser songwriting arrangements and the influence of post-punk. Christine McVie reflected that the band was apprehensive about clashing with Buckingham over the creative direction of Tusk and expressed mixed feelings about the final product. In his review for Rolling Stone, Stephen Holden emphasised the experimental nature of the album, comparing it to the Beatles' "White Album" in that "Tusk is less a collection of finished songs than a mosaic of pop-rock fragments by individual performers." Tusk was one of the first albums to be digitally mixed.

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Oct 27 2026

I actually liked this fairly well for a jazz album (not usually my favorite), but I do think I tend to like the bossa nova style pretty well. Pleasant background jazz. Jazz Samba is a bossa nova album by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd, released by Verve Records in 1962. Jazz Samba signaled the beginning of the bossa nova craze in America. Stan Getz was the featured soloist and the tracks were arranged by Charlie Byrd, who had first heard bossa nova during a tour of Brazil in 1961. The album was recorded at All Souls Unitarian Church in Washington, D.C., on February 13, 1962, and released in April of that year.

Nevermind by Nirvana
Oct 28 2026

What an incredible album. So many bangers. This one is getting played on repeat. Of the ones I heard for the first time, Territorial Pissings is probably my favorite, but there are lots of wonderful ones on here that I already knew too. Nevermind is the second studio album by the American rock band Nirvana, released on September 24, 1991. Written primarily by frontman Kurt Cobain, the album is noted for channeling a range of emotions, being noted as dark, humorous, and disturbing. Thematically, it includes anti-establishment views, anti-sexism, frustration, alienation and troubled love inspired by Cobain's broken relationship with Bikini Kill's Tobi Vail. According to Cobain, the sound of the album was influenced by bands such as Pixies, R.E.M., the Smithereens, and the Melvins. While the album is considered a cornerstone of the grunge genre, it is noted for its musical diversity, which includes acoustic ballads ("Polly" and "Something in the Way") and punk-inspired hard rock ("Territorial Pissings" and "Stay Away").
