1001 Albums Summary

Track 1 is a very strong start. Enjoying the Bowie influence coming through. The instrumentals in Tonight are beauuuuuutiful. It might as well be a Bowie song though. First one from the album to make it to my liked songs. I'm enjoying the run of tracks in the middle of the album. Success is very fun. Turn Blue is also continuing the streak - beautiful vocals. Sonically quite cohesive, but not sure of any lyrical concept here - they're a bit too surreal and random. Fall In Love With Me as an album closer is just fine. Overall I think there are a couple too many weak tracks in the album, but the good ones drag it up quite high. More deserving of 3.5 stars than 3.

I'm using this album as background music whilst I work, so I probably won't be appreciating the lyrics as much as I should be, more the melodies. The harmonica isn't as invasive as I remember it being. Tracks 1-3 have been lovely to do my work to so far. Also, his vocals are a lot softer than I thought (based on other albums). What's interesting is that I know this is one of the big Dylan albums, yet I haven't heard any of these tracks on their own. I've gotten to track 5 with no skips, and I'm still having a lovely relaxing time with this music. Lots of the instrumentals sound very similar - I didn't realise how much music since the 70's has been influenced by this. Album has been added to my library at the beginning of 'If you see her, say hello'. 4.5.
