Coincidentally this came only three days after "Goo" which I didn't like too much. After three songs, it started to heavily annoy me. Some of the songs seem to never end. Actually they do, but only after more than seven minutes… Not my cup of tea.

Another major album from Sonic Youth! Once again, I'm not overly familiar with their work but it's a real pleasure to dig into their discography thanks to 10001albums. Daydream Nation is more raw than Goo, really abrasive, there is a punk urgency to their sound, but paradoxically they take their time to develop their songs. Noise is everywhere, they are always on the verge of sound chaos. And what an intro! Great album.

If 1990’s Goo anticipated grunge, then 1988’s Daydream Nation harks back to the spiky sounds of post punk and new wave from 10 years previously. This really reminded me of Joy Division in places and I think that Kim Gordon’s bass playing compares well to Peter Hook’s. The only complaint I have about this is that stretching 12 songs over a double album is a bit much - I’d rather they’d cut them down to 3 minute bangers and kept it as a single album.

I liked this more than Goo, and knew a handful of tracks. Like every Sonic Youth album I've listened to though, it does seem to drag on.
