Before yesterday I had no idea who DJ Shadow is and that the album Endtroducing..... exitst.
I had no idea what to expect, but I was surprised with mellow, laid back, and sometimes lovely melodies. Some of the songs, like "Midnight In A Perfect World" had strong Trip Hop vibes, which I liked.
On the other hand, I felt that some of the songs are too long and repetetive. This clearly isn't my genre, but I enjoyed listening to it, however, I don't think I'll pick it up ever again. Hence my rating.
Regatta de Blanc features one of the biggest hits of The Police, "Message In A Bottle". However, according to Last.FM I never listened to the album at all. And I can tell, apart from Message In A Bottle all other songs are new to me.
You can still hear Punk, Reggae and Ska influences on this album, which never gets boring. The tempo of the songs vary a lot, I tend to like the faster, less Reggae style songs, such as "No Time This Time", better.
Overall it's a really strong album.
The contribution that the Beatles made to the further development of music and the emergence of new genres cannot be overestimated.
This early work may sound a little "soft" today, but if you listen closely, you can recognise a precursor of a lot of genres in every song. From hard rock to pop and even German Schlager, everything can be traced back to the Beatles in some way.
The album itself is not my favourite, but the importance of this album cannot be denied. Hell, the music that you, dear reader, are listening today, probably won't exist without the Beatles.
Everything below a 4 star rating would be a crime.
I love listening to 60s Soul/Rythm and Blues, especially because most of the time the instruments sound fantastic. On this album, I really like the guitars and especially the bass (is it a contrabass?).
However, the album gets a bit long. I know that it's only 35 minutes, but after ~20 minutes it is starting to lose me.
The Smiths are a weird band for me. I like listening to them, but other than "How Soon Is Now", "Panic" and "Ask" it always feels like I am listening to their songs the first time, nothing really sticks. Listening to this album felt like a first, although I heard all of the songs before multiple times.
The Smiths in general, and on this album in particular sound weirdly uplifting despite the melancholic, almos whiney vocals and "heavy" lyrics. I keep wondering if R.E.M. was influenced by this album when they wrote "Shiny Happy People"...
Very reduced music and a nasal voice reciting exceptionally good lyrics. No, that's not Bob Dylan but Leonard Cohen. Songs From A Room is not my favourite Cohen album but features one of his most famous songs "Bird On The Wire" and the equally great "The Partisan"
From his early works, I prefer his debut album though. This one is good, but not great.
Great background soundtrack while working. Doesn't make me wanna go and listen to it again though.
This album brings back memories. I heard the song "Dreaming Of You" on the TV Show "Scrubs" and had to find out who wrote it. The album is good, I listened to it a lot back then and it still holds up.
I don't really listen to Hip Hop and Rap, but when I do, it's old-school. This is great. A bit long, but great.
This is one of the best debut albums ever released, a timeless masterpiece. I love everything about it.
I never heard of this band before Breaking Down sounds like psychodelic rock and City Of Fun was fun
In general it sounds as if Pink Floyd went down a punky path and jammed with The Clash and The Police. Also, I hear some Libertines.
This album sounds like it influenced early 2000 Rock 'n' Roll and Garage Rock bands a lot. At parts, they remind me a lot of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. In the second half, the album makes a turn towards more poppy sounds. All in all a good listen.
Now I know where all the garage rock and indie bands from the 2000s got their inspiration from.
It is Highway to Hell by AC/DC, what more is there to say?
I didn't really like Manu Chao back when I was in school, but that must have changed, because I really enjoyed this album.
Nice one, but too long. That should have been 2 albums.
This is not my kind of music at all, and yet it was ok to listen to. It didn't move me much though.
Interesting. Not more, not less.
Great voice, too many "oooooh aaaaaahs" though.
Okay to listen to, not more not less.
Was OK to listen to, but nothing special.
This is a perfect album, simple as that.
Great album, not more, not less.
I guess this album is good. But it made me feel so miserable and it was really hard for me to listening to all 72 minutes of it.
I wanna say I loved it, but I listened to it early in the morning and I was definitely not 100% in the mood for it.
