I am a bit undecided about this album. The blend of hip-hop and jazzy elements is great. Use of samples remains in reasonable boundaries. Sounds nicely laid-back. But in parts it's annoyingly repetitive.
Pretty good laid back hip hop. I like how samples are used, I love the rythm overall of the album that is an invitation to chill. And the production is also pretty good with a nice and round sound. The contrast compared to gangsta rap of the same period is striking.
This is an effortlessly cool blend of hip-hop, jazz and some very cheeky samples that flows beautifully. I loved the way that the tribe is introduced in the first track, giving the album the feel of a party where you are meeting a bunch of new people who are all happy to include you in their musical meanderings. My favourite track was I left My Wallet in El Segundo which spins a yarn of an ill advised road trip into the desert.
Being so laid back is both this album's blessing and curse. If this was ~40min it'd be great, but at 65min it verges on repetitive and boring.
