As a hard rock album, it's fine. More hard rock bands in the '90s could have used Kirk Hammett. But knowing what they'd done and where they were going, hard not to resent almost everything about this album.

The beginning of the end? Decent hard rock album, it's nice they slowed things down so Lars could keep up. It's all very pedestrian though, isn't it? Oh, I don't know! It's not terrible, a bit too long and bands evolve etc. 2.5 / 5 stars.
Of their core albums before they helped numetal gain a strong hold, this is their weakest. It is also the most popular. It certainly catches a couple of zeitgeist type topics and has become anthemic for various reasons.
