Remastered 2009. The big guitar riff in Come Together sounds so good, and so does the rumbling low end in the coda. Something has a riff that could have been on a Pink Floyd album. It's slow and purposeful, with real weight to it. In general I appreciate the stero effects and little details. It's the kind of clear mix I like with all the instruments distinct and punchy. It's not all quiet and proggy either, Oh! Darling has an aggressive chorus and heavy drumming and I Want You (She's So Heavy) is true to its name with a crushing riff (ok, it's still 1969!) Side two starts with a change of pace but another heavy hitter in Here Comes the Sun, and Because features the Moog synthesizer to great effect. The rest of the album is a medley winding its way through 8 tracks over 16 minutes. There's lots of good parts, but Golden Slumbers might be the prettiest bit and has a perfect transition into Carry That Weight. Overall, an ambitious and enduring work. With the band starting to fall apart at the seams, it's almost unbelievable how good it is.
