I was surprised to get a decent amount of enjoyment out of this - maybe because there was no sign of "Rock & Roll All Nite" KISS has never felt like anything special to me, and without the makeup and eccentric outfits they likely would have just been yet another 80s glam rock band. But the songs on this one pack a nice punch, notably the opener "Detroit Rock City". I also wasn't expecting anything like "Beth" - I didn't realize KISS was capable of pulling off a rock ballad. That all being said.. I'm glad grunge came along in the 90s to wipe the slate clean from all the glam/hair rock of the 80s.
