Dirty
Sonic Youth

You know that book the Tipping Point? The connectors and mavens and salesmen.... This is a connector album. I love that Sonic Youth uses the work of famous artists on their album covers. Tho, was Raymond Pettibon famous before Goo, or did Goo make him famous...? Mike Kelley was on a healthy trajectory to achieving fame if he hadn't already been so when Dirty came out. But it made me pay attention to the art world in a way that I hadn't before. So many connections with this album, 100% features Guy Mariano and Spike Jonze in the same video before Girl started, what about Kathleen Hanna being completely annoying in that Bull in the Heather video? X-Large / X-Girl stores on Vermont in Los Feliz .... B-Boys! B-Girls! Art! Skateboarding! Noise Rock! Riot Grrrls! Sonic Youth's mainstream apex is right here in Dirty. But I don't think it's the music that makes this as relevant as the connections it provides.
