Black Metal
Venom

Happy to see this show up. The first couple tracks come out hard and fast. Let's be clear - it's not black metal as we know it now. But if you wanted Motorhead to be more extreme, this is it. There's still catchy songwriting here and the production is effective with the raw guitar tone and unyielding drum and bass backbone. Buried Alive slows things down and has a groovier feel with some great lead work. The tempo kicks way back up on Raise the Dead and stays there for the next few tracks. Just punishing riffs and dark, grimy speed metal. Sacrifice is a highlight, and then Heaven's on Fire is even more aggressive, especially the drumming. Countess Bathory is more mid tempo with a killer riff and heavy drumming. Maybe the best track so far, but Don't Burn the Witch opens with a twisted, evil riff and then pummels you into submission. Bang your fucking head. I even love the spooky outro (which is actually the intro to their next album) and then it fades out. Required listening for metalheads, but this may appeal to other folks too.
