Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

This album blew me away. I heard a bit of Nick Cave in the past and I disliked him for some reason, and ignored him ever since. I’m really glad I was able to look past that preconceived notion with this listen. Musically, this album was full of surprises. I didn’t know what style was coming next, and it never seemed to disappoint. The backing vocals really stood out for me; they helped take these songs to the next level, and I’m not sure the songs would be as good without them. Nick Cave’s vocal stylings were very interesting. Not a good singer necessarily, but a great vocalist and frontman. He’s a David Byrne of sorts - The Talking Heads wasn’t only Byrne, but it was definitely The David Byrne Show. This feels similar. A rare five star rating for an album that is completely new to me.
