My Aim Is True
Elvis Costello

I've heard this album hundreds of times but haven't revisited it in years. And for whatever reason I never enjoed it as much as I did this time. Even Allison wich normally makes me yawn, this time I was appreciating it for the perfect rock ballad that it is, focussing on the beautiful bass line, the jazzy guitar figure and the other subtle touches made the song come alive for me as never before. Every song jumped forth from the grooves relealing new elements that grabbed hold of me kept me riveted throughout the 35 minutes or so. I've always felt ECs first 4 albums are about as good a 4 album start of any artist in rock history, rivalling Led Zeppelin in that department, however I there was always something about My Aim is True that made me feel it was a rung below the other three...but not today. Today it takes its place beside the other three as no brainer 5 star albums!
