It’s no longer 1973, it’s cool to like the Carpenters guys. I’ve really underestimated how talented the Carpenters are. It may be schmalzy pop music, but the instrumentation is perfectly placed, with drum fills and guitars always seeming to come in at the right time. Karen’s voice is also beautiful and the selection of covers they have selected here work really well. An enjoyable album, even if it falls off a little by the second half.
