Autobahn by Kraftwerk
Jan 13 2021

The album that got me into Kraftwerk, as much as I prefer their later works, I can see why peeps hold it up as Krautrock's greatest moment. Thing is, it's not Kraftwerk's greatest moment, as this was back when they were trying to be Eno or Neu!, as opposed to showing YMO, Jarre and all those who came later how electronic music ought to be done. If you're into it, that's fine, but there's a reaso why we know them more for Trains, Models, and Microprocessors. Final score: 63/100

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Jan 14 2021

The cubby-hole from whence Knopfler came and crawled back into post-BiA, albeit this is too early to see his true strengths as a guitar player. Basically 8 second-rate "Sultans", and the worse version of the real one. Enjoyable, if throwaway. Rating 61/100

Nevermind by Nirvana
Jan 15 2021

If it weren't for Butch Vig being a brilliant con-man, we'd'nt've "Teen Spirit", but we'd've an alive Cobain. This album is what happens when someone directs anger at the masses, and ends up being called the Messiah for it. In a way, the genius of the album, and its wide variety of dissonances, ever-changing moods, and constant nihilism is secondary to the fact that everyone hears its first bars, and chose to copy it, ignoring what the rest of the album was trying to say. In that sense, it's like the Gettysburg of the 1990s. Fucking Nirvana fans, they killed Nirvana. Score: 83/100
