While their garage rock style and catchy songwriting may have inspired troves of artists, The Strokes come up short and boring on Is This It.
The instrumental wizardry on this project would make the 80s club movement proud. However, my ears weren’t entirely satisfied. It seems Depeche spent so long fine tuning violator for electronic ears that it lost touch with its pop potential in such a way that makes it not quite worth revisiting.
Balancing wild punk with a rare soft side, The Replacement’s Let It Be may lack the hits of future albums, but it does an okay job of introducing the group as not just another rock outfit.
While its production is well deserving of the album’s popularity, Dr. Octagon’s boring flow fails to maintain engagement.
Is it a masterpiece? Yes. Is it worth the goddamn year in length? Fucking no.
