1001 Albums Summary

Somewhere there’s a dictionary with a definition of sublime. And next to it is “I believe …”. I assumed this wasn’t a great album. And it is mixed. But that track and Superstition lift it to another level. I’ll need to revisit it

Played it to death when I first bought it and couldn’t bear to listen to it for years. Reminded how great it is. Brilliant guitar pop. Loads of hooks. Short songs that never outstay their welcome. The only one I don’t get is Freedom Song. Doesn’t work for me.

I tried my best but couldn’t get into it. Always had an antipathy towards Dickinson. Something about they kind of vocal never really got me. Wonder what those songs would be like without him? Love the energy. Rhythm section is brilliant. The title track and Run For The Hills stand out.

Another album I’ve not actively listened to in ages. Dug out the vinyl. Drums, bass and accordion really drives the rhythms. Loved it. But it’s his vocals and the production that adds some grace, depth and lightness of touch when it’s needed. Really need to listen to this more. Staying on the turntable for tomorrow.

Have to admit it. Perfect pop. So many great tunes. So many styles and influences all coming together. LISTEN TO THIS ONE AGAIN

Great live set. The obviously didn’t hate everyone who went electric at Newport. I saw a bit of video of this set. He looked so cool. Mojo working was the stand out for me. How cool must it have been to be at this gig in 1960
