a unique sound for sure. Lots of pop-y beats and dissonant horns and melodies with a bit of jazz thrown in. Kinda felt like a fever dream I’d like to avoid. Didn’t enjoy other than Like Someone In Love.
The guitar instrumentals are super interesting and there’s some pretty cool picking/syncopation going on. Rest of the instrumentals are pretty basic and it’s all lead by the guitar. I don’t love the Dylan-esque vocals but that’s a personal preference.

Don’t think I’ve ever listened to this album in full. Celebration Day has always been a favorite and makes me think of playing bass with Xan at 16. Ultimately still a tier below LZ II and Houses of the Holy in my opinion if only for the creativity of the songs. Still has that earlier LZ sound I like so much more than the albums after HotH.
Makes me want to sit in a corner booth at a bar in Chicago and drink brandy cocktails. Some of this is over my head but it’s almost like looking at a start at night where you can see it a little better if you don’t look right at it. I can jive with Thelonious Monk better if I’m not too focused on it.
Never have given this one a full listen in one sitting. Flows really nicely as almost a continuous single song. Definitely feels like a tribute album to Syd. More of the mid 70s sounds creeping in that I don’t like as much as the earlier albums but that gets forgotten as you immerse into the songs.
