Very interesting album. If you’re a hip hop fan it is a must. It is a prelude to all the sampling done from the late 90s to present. I can definitely see how this album has its thumbprints all over hip hop. The Number Song and Stem/Stem Long were my favorite songs.
Sooooo…..I’m very conflicted about this album. In 1984 is was probably a banger. However, knowing what I know about Tina and Ike Turner’s relationship, this album reads more like a victims plea for help rather than a pop masterpiece. What’s Love and Let’s together are timeless pop songs. Buuuuut… Private Dancer, Better Be Good to Me, and Help and particularly brutal songs in the light of such heinous domestic abuse crimes. Tina’s voice is timeless, and maybe this album as well, but it will always be haunted by Ike.
