• I already knew Once, Even Flow, Alive, Black and Jeremy
• Every song I didn’t already know is very good.
• Every song was added to my main playlist
• Release sounds a lot like Elderly Woman
• The hidden track after Release is very cool sounding and very different from the rest of the album, though I wish it was its own track on Spotify for when I want to listen to Release on its own.
• Definitely not my usual style of music, but it is catchy
• This album is the definition of background music
• Their Alvin and the Chipmunks cover is cool
• The fast songs all sound the same and the slow songs are boring
• The close doesn’t have the same punch as many of the other tracks
• I was happy when the album finally finished
Favourite song: We Are Family
• Baba O’Riley is good purely because it reminds me of Joe Pera lol. The solo at the end was very unexpected but I dig it.
• Love Ain’t For Keeping has a nice feeling.
• The Song Is Over began slow but once it picked up it got much better. It could maybe be about a minute shorter.
• Getting In Tune’s bass lick(?) in the intro sounds very cool. The bass continues to have a high volume throughout the rest of the song, giving it a unique vibe to the rest of the album.
• Won’t Be Fooled Again is another song I already knew and I like it a fair bit.
• Won’t Be Fooled Again should’ve been the closer, but the two songs after it have enough to warrant their inclusion
• The album has the roots of a lot of classic rock.
• No songs really outstay their welcome
Favourite song: Won’t Get Fooled Again
• I was disappointed to see September wasn’t on this album
• Shining Star is good
• Africano is a very cool instrumental
• I mostly listened to this in the background while playing with my dog so I don’t have many in-depth thoughts on the individual songs
• It has more variety than the Sister Sledge album I listened to, but still isn’t what I would call my style of music
Favourite song: Africano
• I had already heard Common People
• The vocalist shines when he sings loudly, in the higher register, rather than the low whisper he tends to use
• I Spy’s slow beginning isn’t my favourite but when it picks up it gets a lot better
• Disco 2000 is also very good
• A lot of the (non love-related) lyrics remind me of Gorillaz
• Many songs on the album don’t particularly stand out on a first listen, though I can see them becoming easier to recognise on further listens.
Favourite song: Common People
Nothing stood out while listening to this album at all. I always respect the addition of bonus tracks though.
Not a bad album, but I don’t see myself listening to anything from it again.
Favourite song: Driftwood??
•Truckin’ and Till the Morning Comes are the only real standout songs from the album, and even then.
Favourite song: Truckin’
• I listened to this album while doing other things but, unlike other albums I’ve listened to while doing this, this album never fell into the background.
• Ice T’s voice is great
• The spoken interludes between songs were a very nice change of pace
• The topics covered in the songs are meaningful and still relevant today.
Favourite song: Body Count
• I’m not a fan of most 60’s music, and unfortunately this is not exception.
• Most of the songs are very typical of the era, and mostly sound like Beatles rejects.
• The final two songs are exceptions to this, and I actually enjoyed them quite a bit.
• Friends of Mine grabbed me with the repeated pairs of names and Time of the Season is just a good song.
• If it weren’t for these last two songs this would be a 2/5.
Favourite song: Time of the Season
As a note, Spotify had half of this album restricted in Australia, so I had to make a playlist of it using other albums of his.
• He has a fantastic voice that I think would suit any song
• The songs all have very happy sounds
• I don’t think there are any songs that are significantly better than the rest, it’s just a very good album altogether. However, I think the first impression Blueberry Hill made was great.
Favourite song: Blueberry Hill
Bobby Womack is best known to me as the guest vocalist on Gorillaz’ Stylo, Cloud of Unknowing and Bobby in Phoenix, and he’s always been one of my favourite feature artists for that band, so I’m excited to finally hear an album of his.
• While Soul isn’t a genre I typically listen to, I can definitely respect the skill and talent being showcased on the album
• The songs sound large, helped largely by the choir backing vocals
• No songs really stood out as better or worse than the others, so it’s tough to pick a favourite
Favourite song: Games
• I can safely say I will never listen to anything from this album again
• Renegade was the only song I even remotely liked purely because of Eminem
• Girls, Girls, Girls was the worst song on the album, and the reprise was no better
Favourite song: Renegade
• Airlane was a cool sounding instrumental track
• The album has a consistently strong bass throughout
• Only three tracks in but every song has a distinct tone, with Complex having a markedly different sound to the first two songs
• M.E. sounds like a lot of other songs, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it inspired or was sampled by other artists.
• I like the melody in Conversation
• I have heard Cars before listening to this album, though I’m not sure where (Edit: The Simpsons). I really like this one.
• Oceans sounds like a Mario Galaxy song, while Asylum sounds like it’s from the Mario & Luigi series
Favourite song: Cars
• God damn I was caught off guard by the topic of Rednecks
• It’s interesting that his sound is identical to the sound of his Toy Story soundtracks, just with more politically charged lyrics
• This album suffers from a lot of songs sounding similar, though most of them have at least one unique element to alleviate that
• The overarching theme of the album is very melancholy, which suits his vocals very well
Favourite song: Naked Man
• Nothing in the album stuck out as good or bad, though it was a calming listen.
Favourite song: I have no idea, maybe Under the Pressure?
• The only Lana Del Rey song I’ve heard before today is Summertime Sadness, which I admittedly don’t mind
• The high pitched whisper vocals throughout White Dress are awful and I really hope they aren’t a running theme throughout the album
• The whole album is super repetitive
• At least Dance Till We Die sounds different to the other tracks
• Being an album released in 2021, I feel like every song was written to be radio or TikTok hits, rather than to be listened as an album. I don’t think it should be considered an album you must hear before you die, and I won’t be listening to anything from it again.
Favourite song: Dance Till We Die
