She's So Unusual
Cyndi Lauper
Vocals are really cool, sounds like I’m in an 80s movie with the first song. Songs are bangers and feel good. According to Wikipedia “The album is primarily new wave-based, with many of the songs being influenced by synthpop and pop rock”

First song is so cool with its progressing beat elements. Makes me feel like I’m in a Matrix movie which fits in with the era of the 90s. The more I do this album activity the more I realize music is like a time machine. I enjoy listening to products that have defined their era. Did not finish though

The Isley Brothers
Found the sample for Kendrick Lamar’s “I” with the first track “That Lady, Pts 1&2”. Should note I am familiar with the Isley Brothers but have never actually listened to an entire album, their vocals and instrumentals are as smooth as I would expect them to be. Album makes me feel good and happy, almost like a summer day.

The synth instrumentals are so 80s. Album is very American and it’s great, very different than what I am used to listening to.

The Queen Is Dead
The Smiths
Quite the coincidence that this was chosen randomly as queen Elizabeth actually passed away yesterday, first song “queen is dead” is actually really good though. Vocals are unique and bass and guitar work is great. Love the solo at the end. Album is very British, “I Know It’s Over” sounds like something that would play in a hazy pub while playing pool with the boys and the football game is going on lol.

Thundercat
Immediate reaction was surprise, I didn’t expect such a newer album to be on this list but I do agree it’s really good. Interested in listening to the whole thing as I have heard a good amount of songs from this album and also listen to a lot of thundercat. Listening to the album as a whole it’s very sad, background on the album is that thundercat’s friend had died and this album was to commemorate him. The minor tones throughout the album as well as the deeply introspective lyrics on life and death can be a bit hard to listen to, his funky instrumentals and unconventional melodies also add to this. Lyrically he is very transparent which can be offsetting for some but I enjoy when artists do this, adds more sincerity to the album. I wonder if future generations will listen to this album and think that it is a product of its era, as the other albums on this list have done very well. It may be hard to decide if that’s the case when it’s been released only a few years ago to when I write this.

The album sounds like it was ahead of its time, I was surprised it released in 1973. Actually never mind I was going to say it sounded Beatles-esq but it was actually released afterwards. I do like the orchestral influences. Did not finish last song tho

Melodrama
Lorde
Honestly never listened to lorde before other than what had played on the radio. Very mad at radio stations for not playing “Green Light” more, it’s a banger. Her vocals are so cool and unique, somehow it reminds me of a chilled out Cyndi Lauper. Definitely an iconic artist of her generation. I was reluctant to listen to her before this but I will definitely check out her stuff when it releases. “Dynamite” is really great too. Album takes a turn at “Liability” and becomes more dramatic and bittersweet.

Hearts And Bones
Paul Simon
Song “Hearts and Bones” is very peaceful, acoustics are great. Reminds me of Jim Croce. Some songs have reggae influences which is interesting with the acoustics. Album is very peaceful and lyrics are light and insightful. Did not finish

Listened to a few songs but did not really like, maybe feeling burnt out from all of the British bands?
