Bright Flight by Silver Jews

I loved this album - it might be over the top but this is the first time I was really taken aback at the quality of the album - it’s not perfect but it’s a 5* from me - a new find forever!

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Nov 03 2022

Easy listening, some songs would definitely go in a chilled/dinner playlist. Lyrically great too but the style/genre is just ‘not my bag’.

Tigermilk by Belle & Sebastian
Nov 04 2022

Enjoyed this for a long time. Lo-fi jingly jangly songs about real things and real life- vocals are sincere and vulnerable but have impact, great stuff!

Cross by Justice
Nov 07 2022

Dance music like this appeals to people like me because the songs are structured more like pop/rock with clearly defined sections and melodic elements. I really enjoyed this and would definitely play it again for party background music or just when I want something upbeat but not ‘sing-a-long’

System Of A Down by System Of A Down
Nov 08 2022

Brilliant album - angry, joyous and political nu-metal. Bucks trends, challenges conventions and brings a lot of head banging, screaming fun along the way. Not too be taken too seriously but not to be dismissed either!

Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Nov 09 2022

Neutral milk hotel, the Beatles, arcade fire all rolled into one- not as good as any one of them on their own but a very pleasant sounding result!

A Short Album About Love by The Divine Comedy
Nov 10 2022

Meh - wasn’t for me - voice grated on me and nothing about the song structure gripped me. Production fairly crappy too

Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz
Nov 11 2022

It started better than I expected - middle of the road dirge. I made it to track 8 (Mr Cab Driver) before bailing, pretty atrocious as the album continued. Could have been a decent EP but he dragged it out to 13 tracks? Shame on you Lenny!

Queen II by Queen
Nov 14 2022

Better than I expected in all honesty - ogre battle in particular! Solid 3.5 but getting a 3 on here

Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Nov 16 2022

Not on Spotify anymore cos he had a fit about Joe Rogan talking about Covid. Seems like a tear, didn’t listen to it, 1 star, would not return

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
Nov 17 2022

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this, another solid 3.5. It’s definitely getting just a 3 though cos , ya know - he was a paedophile🤷🏻‍♂️

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Nov 18 2022

Ch..ch..ch..chaaanges!

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Nov 21 2022

Some great tracks with strong social commentary from the time. I like hip-hop but I don’t love it and this album was very much ‘of its time’ for me.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Nov 22 2022

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. Really catchy riffs, discovered plenty that have been sampled on other works and it was really easy to listen to.

Black Metal by Venom
Nov 23 2022

I get it, it’s like real-life Spinal Tap - objectively not good though.

The Sensual World by Kate Bush
Nov 24 2022

Meh, decent enough but nowhere near as good compared to hounds of love

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Nov 25 2022

Decent, amazing voice, nice traditional folky sound - couldn’t connect with it as much as other solo folk artists as I couldn’t follow the ‘stories’ as well as someone like Dylan or Donovan. Songs were also a bit meh 🫤

The Age Of The Understatement by The Last Shadow Puppets
Nov 28 2022

Objectively good songs but not for me. I don’t like the arctic monkey style vocals which date it significantly imo

Felt Mountain by Goldfrapp
Nov 30 2022

Nice, lovely to listen to and potentially would get a 4 if I give it a few more listens - some really classic and recognisable riffs. Jolly nice!

Third/Sister Lovers by Big Star
Dec 01 2022

Good album, can’t believe it’s on here rather than #1 record as 3rd isn’t their best - some brilliant ones like O’Dana and Holocaust but overall average

Truth And Soul by Fishbone
Dec 02 2022

Meh - not into funk-rock really - didn’t do it for me

Dec 05 2022

Not something I would likely go back to in a hurry but poignant, social commentary is fascinating and his voice is amazing

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Dec 06 2022

This one blew me away! Obviously the man is a legend but I had no idea how accessible some of his work could be - I thought it was all crazy free-form Jazz but this was carefully considered and beautifully put together. I listened to it with a coffee when doing my emails and it was perfect in that setting - experientially it was perfect and for that i would have to give it my first 5 star but I know that isn’t objective so it gets a very strong 4.

Bright Flight by Silver Jews
Dec 07 2022

I loved this album - it might be over the top but this is the first time I was really taken aback at the quality of the album - it’s not perfect but it’s a 5* from me - a new find forever!

The Slider by T. Rex
Dec 08 2022

Better than I expected, easy to listen to, great background music when cooking and tidying etc. no bangers but no stinkers
