Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Dec 01 2022

This is probably the first blues album I've ever listened to. Makes me think of hot, arid, desert-like climates... probably because I've heard blues songs often used in soundtracks for wild-west (or Western-inspired) TV and film. I know blues is one of the predecessors to rock (or as Muddy says, "The Blues Had a Baby and They Named it Rock and Roll"), so it was cool to see the beginning threads of rock in this genre.

Phrenology by The Roots
Dec 02 2022

According to Wikipedia, Phrenology was made in NYC during the early aughts (between 2001-2002). This album was a fun ride through 2000s hip hop, and I really enjoyed the diversity of sounds/influences they channeled here (especially the one or two short interludes between songs).

GREY Area by Little Simz
Dec 05 2022

Really fun album, especially liked Offence and Boss. I enjoyed how this artist played with eclectic sound effects in her music, it gave the tracks a playful edge to their confident/harder lyrics and beats. This album was the first British rap album I've listened to, and listening to the unique cadence of Little Simz's voice made GREY Area a novel and funky listening experience.

Vespertine by Björk
Dec 06 2022

Vespertine reminds me so much of the artist Soap&Skin. I first heard Soap&Skin (specifically their tracks Sleep and Spiracle) during an immersive art exhibition for Pipilotti Rist, Pixel Forest. Pixel Forest is one of my most favorite art exhibitions I've seen to date, and Bjork's Vespertine evoked a similar intimate, melancholy, dreamlike ambiance to the music that actually played during the experience. It may not be something that I play on repeat, but it captures such a special, gentle, and meditative mood that I can easily see myself saving this album for a special-occasion listen like a bottle of good wine.

Revolver by Beatles
Dec 09 2022

Well, it's the Beatles. To me, this album was the definition of easy listening music. I enjoyed Elenor Rigby and I'm Only Sleeping, but (controversial opinion incoming) I found the rest of the album to be forgettable. Maybe I need to give it another listen?

Dookie by Green Day
Dec 12 2022

It's Green Day, and I'm a pop punk fan. Self explanatory.
