Yes, he tore up the rule book, yes he was the finest guitarist of his (and possibly any) generation, yes he wrote some banging tunes, but come on, by any measure this is not a truly great album. It's a remarkable debut, but especially in it's original UK release track listing it's missing the most banging tunes which had already been put out as scouting singles. No Hey Joe, no Wind Cries Mary and whilst the album has some magnificent raw guitar riffs, there's really, when you drill down into it, a great deal of filla. This doesn't flow as an album and it's not wall to wall bangers. Sorry. It's bang average, especially by Jimi's standards.
