1001 Albums Summary

3.5/5 (it didn’t let me do half stars) I did enjoy the album and felt that many of the themes presented back in 1977 still remain somewhat relevant today e.g. worker dissatisfaction, police brutality and criticism of US military involvement (Vietnam) The album was mostly made up of many very short songs with most of them no longer than 2 minutes. I did feel this may have help contribute to me finding that many songs blending into one which did cause the Album to become a bit same-ish at points. Never the less the album did have some songs that stood out to me. Favourite songs: I’m so bored with the USA White Riot Career Opportunities Police & Thieves Overall, it’s not my favourite Clash album but it was still good

6/10 This is my first album I have listened to by Curtis Mayfield, with this almost being an introduction to the genre soul (apart from a couple of LOVE albums) I thought it was a good record with many pleasant instrumentals however from the Album cover I hoped for a bit more of a social commentary about the harsh reality of life as an Africa American at the time. Hints of this appeared in Hard Times but it didn’t appear to be a continuous theme throughout the album. This isn’t a huge problem but it was disappointing especially when considering that I did feel any song stood out as a stand alone BANGER. Favourite songs: Hard times When seasons change Love to the people Overall, the album was decent but I can’t imagine I will be revisiting it anytime soon unlike other soul albums like LOVE-forever changes

7/10 Not any bad songs on the album but it also lacked any great songs either. As a whole it was a good album but there were no standout songs I would listen to alone. Favourite songs: Slow burn Butterflies Oh, what a world It was a pleasant listen and I enjoyed it. However it hasn’t got me rushing to come back any time soon but maybe in the future.
