If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears by The Mamas & The Papas
Aug 20 2026

Songs are reminiscent of standard 1966 Beatles (including a Beatles cover) or of the sort of song that would underscore a film scene of the main waifish female character finding herself in the big city. Elevated by the vocal harmonies but it feels dated, restrained & uninspired for 1966. The covers especially seem very unnecessary, they don't add to, significantly change or top the originals. It wasn't unusual to use outside songwriters a lot at the time but with half the songs written outside of the band, and the two major hits being inhouse, it kind of feels like only half a M&P album. In Crowd is livened up with a soul edge & some organ, but as a whole it sounds like a pretty basic early 60s album, despite the 1966 date.

It's Simon & Garfunkel, what else is there to say. Some classics, some great vocal harmonies

Dirt by Alice In Chains

It's fine. Rooster is a standout. Junkhead is depressing

Aug 26 2026

A dab of Roxy Music's smooth veneer combined with Eno's experimental instincts

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield

Listened previously, great but suffers a bit as a soundtrack
