1001 Albums Summary

Cosmo’s Factory is the first full album I’ve heard by Creedence Clearwater Revival. It’s certainly listenable, but outside of a few moments I didn’t find it too gripping. I have a lot of respect for the band, and I like a few of their songs, but I can’t see myself revisiting this album often.

This is probably my favourite hip-hop album. I love the production, the influences from funk and jazz and how insightful Kendrick Lamar’s lyrics are. It’s a little long for my tastes, but To Pimp a Butterfly is an essential listen.

There are some great tracks on Sheer Heart Attack, but it’s brought down by the sillier novelty songs. It’s still worth a listen, though. I feel like Queen are at their best on their hard rock cuts.

I absolutely love The Cure. I absolutely love Seventeen Seconds. It’s dark, moody and minimal, yet there are so many memorable moments. I adore the melodic basslines and the spiky but somehow jangly guitars. A classic of the post-punk and gothic rock genres.

I actually first heard this album close to when it was released, but I was too young to appreciate it outside of the singles. I can see The Seldom Seen Kid being a major grower. I love plenty on here, but not everything holds my attention… yet. The detailed instrumentals and excellent vocals are major strengths. I think I just need a little more time with the album for everything to sink in.

This is lovely. Wonderful vocals and lyrics, nostalgic instrumentals and lush production. A major talent tragically lost too soon.
