2112 by Rush

Did not enjoy listening to Geddy Lee do his best Robert Plant impression for much of the opening track. I think this album must be on the list because that first 20 minute song is meant to break your spirit, thus making it easier to die. Rest of the album struck me as mid, with a lot of the same feeling that they must’ve really been into listening to Led Zeppelin. Was also kinda odd to hear guitar that reminded me of early metal, specifically Iron Maiden, because they wouldn’t release an album until some 4 years later. Kinda like Something for Nothing, it justifies the one star

On The Beach by Neil Young
Aug 15 2023

This was a tough album to review for me because it means I have to restrain a heavy pro Neil Young bias. If this were Harvest I could easily give it a 5 and walk away, a 4-5 for that is indisputable. I really love the tonal shift of the album. From bright, folksy Blues to more stripped down songs that really emphasizes the blue in Blues. That being said, not all of the latter 2/3s of the album hit well for me. I appreciated the super lo fi; For the Turnstiles, but couldn’t really get into it. Really the titular track and Ambulance Blues from this portion of the album. Overall I’m gonna say; bias aside (hopefully), this is a great album. Not Neil’s most accessible but definitely does what it sets out to do very well.

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads

Enjoyed seeing how many tracks I could listen to before playing Psycho Killer. It’s like a personal challenge, and not because the other tracks are weak. I also think that Who Is It? followed by No Compassion is another big bright spot in the album. Really fun overall.

Transformer by Lou Reed

This album has always been a big blind spot for me and I’m happy this list finally encouraged me to listen to it. These songs are Vicious; 5/5. Even the sleepy ones towards the end.

Didn’t know CD Projeck Red released an early draft of Cyber Punk 2077s soundtrack 2/5

The Sensual World by Kate Bush

Not for me but I think it is probably very good for what it is trying to be. And you might be asking yourself; then why did 2112 get such a low grade? We all gotta draw a line somewhere. This is firmly on the good side of that line.
