Electric Feel was the only one I recognized. Haven't listened to MGMT before. It was okay ig. Wasn't awful, sort of close to my tastes but not really what I listen to normally.
Thunder Road: Not a huge fan, not a great start to this album. Unlike Bruce's style imo. 3/10.
Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out: One of the better and more popular tracks. If someone held a gun to my head and asked me my favorite Bruce song I'd probably say this. Unlike a lot of his other work. 8/10.
Night: Doesn't fit the vibe. Mid song. 4/10.
Backstreets: Better song with better message. Still it's Bruce though. 5/10.
Born to Run: I HATE THIS EFFING SONG WITH A BURNING PASSION. Just kidding. It's fine, just way overplayed. 5/10.
She's the One: Weird lead in and I don't like it. What the hell is this Bruce? Too loud and too flashy for a song that's almost never heard, especially after the overplayed Born to Run. Take it down a notch. 4/10.
Meeting Across the River: Why does this start as a jazz track, I'm so confused. Bruce ffs just pick a genre. After She's the One, which was loud as fuck, this is quiet. Just pick a TEMPO FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. I'm just annoyed by this song, why is Bruce trying to sing a sad jazz-like song. Christ dude just pick something and go with it. I hate this. 3/10.
Jungleland: Dude this is like the same thing as Meeting Across the River but instead of jazz it's a piano backing. Oh wait fuck this is good. Damn. He really came in with a chair there. 7/10. Good job Bruce, pretty decent ending track here.
Total: 39/80 --> 49/100. Yikes. I mean, might be biased. I'm not a huge fan of Bruce. Like 3 songs in this album are fine. The other 5 are kinda bad. I hate people from New Jersey. That is all.
Track A - Solo Dancer: Good lead in. Chaotic as usual for Mingus. Love it. Getting big "rolling down Hollywood in 1960s" type vibes from this track. Very back-alley sounding. 8/10.
Track B - Duete Solo Dancers: You can tell the change between this and the first track. It goes back to kind of an elitist vibe, this must be where Mingus remembers he was originally writing this album for a ballet. Gradually mellows back to regular Mingus, something resembling Track A. Has kind of that Charlie Brown teacher "whomp-whomp" from an instrument that sounds almost human. Essentially the same as Track A after a few minutes. 7/10.
Track C - Group Dancers: Interesting piano start. Interesting guitar interaction. Definitely like this one; has a Brazilian vibe sort of that I like, combined with Mingus's urban-sounding seediness. Guitar goes away (sad!) back into Mingus's vibe. Really no different from his other tracks except for this. 9/10.
Medley - Mode-D Trio and Group Dancers: Single-handedly half the track time in this album??? The guitar returns! Let's go! I got kinda bored about 6 minutes in. This track is so long I tuned most of it out. Still really good though, I expect nothing less from Mingus. 8/10
Total: 32/40 --> 80/100. I like Mingus, but this album is a tad strange. I get he was writing this for a ballet but it doesn't sound like a ballet. Also, the final track is like 20 minutes long. Cut it up a bit. Otherwise, fantastic album.
Dude, it's so good. I haven't listened to a lot of Ray Charles but I love this album now.
No major comments on any of the songs, they all mesh very well together and provide a big-band but also a quieter ambiance which is good. Excellent album.
Good album choice damn! I grew up with the Eagles so this is a comfort album at least, a lot of songs I've heard before. Let's get into it.
Take It Easy: Instant classic. Great opener to the album. 9/10.
Witchy Woman: Reminds me of that one Seinfeld episode lmfao. Good song. 8/10.
Chug All Night: Not heard this one before. Not really a fan. It's okay but I understand now why they don't play it on the radio that much. 6/10.
Most of Us Are Sad: It was okay. 7/10.
Nightingale: A delightfully happy song which confused me with the title. 8/10.
Train Leaves Here This Morning: Slower sadder song. Pretty good, not my favorite though. 7/10.
Take the Devil: Pretty mid song, 6/10.
Earlybird: Bit better than the previous one, but doesn't seem popular enough to play on the radio, 7/10.
Peaceful Easy Feeling: Classic, always liked this one. 9/10
Tryin': It was ok. 7/10.
Total: 74/100. It's an ok album but I'm not a giant Eagles fan. It'll do.
Precious: Pretty good lead-in song. Not super loud. 8/10.
The Phone Call: Like the incorporation of phone noises into it. Short song, loud, not a ton of lyrics. 8/10.
Up the Neck: Much softer and I like the guitar riffs in this one. Very nice. 9/10.
Tattooed Love Boys: Like the riffs on this one too. 9/10.
Space Invader: Really good beginning I like this one. Name is cool too. No lyrics which is kinda nice in this instance. 9/10.
The Wait: Riff is good on this one but I don't like the lyrics that much really. 7/10.
Stop Your Sobbing: Less loud and rocky than the previous songs, a lot more pop/indie-esque. Message is pretty good, I like this but it doesn't necessarily fit with the rest of the message of the album. 8/10.
Kid: Lot different vibe from the others. Like though. 8/10.
Private Life: I do not like this at all. No no no. It's fucking long too. 5/10.
Brass in Pocket: Most played song by the Pretenders, Spotify says it has 186,000,000 listens. It's like, okay. There are better songs to put on the radio though, unsure why they chose this one. 7/10.
Lovers of Today: Slow, repetitive. Not a big fan. 6/10.
Mystery Achievement: Pretty good. 8/10.
Cuban Slide: Not a huge fan, different kinda beat than the others. 6/10.
Porcelain: Oooh I like the riff on this one. 9/10.
Total: 107/140 --> 76/100.
