Two different sounds competing, mirroring the rift within the band that would cement their split by the time the album was released. In my opinion, Abbey Road could have been split in half to make 2 more sonically cohesive collections. Songs like Here comes the Sun, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Octopus's Garden, and Even Mean Mr. Mustard remind us of the earlier and decidedly more innocent sounds of the British Invasion which launched the Beatles into worldwide superstardom. This contrasts sharply against songs like She Came In Through The Bathroom Window, Come Together, Oh! Darling, and I Want You (She's so heavy), which show an attempt at more gritty, mature rock writing and a yearning for creating music to appeal to a different kind of fan. In conclusion, while I love the Beatles and cannot understate the influence they had on Western Pop culture, compared against my own taste in 2023, Abbey Road is a confused little diamond and that dulls her brilliance. 7/10
