1001 Albums Summary

Introduction makes me feel like im in some old theater, than the music starts and you just feel like dancing. The way he can control the crowd at times is one of his best tricks, makes for a very interesting tension in the music. Great voice, great instrumentals like the trumpet parts. Some tracks feel a little simple to me, but are still very fun to listen to! Great record, just not really my personal tastes. A lot of soul and a lot of grove, but also not afraid to take things a little slower. This albums just showcases what a great performer he was. 7/10

I was negative at the start, but once the pace picks up at track 3 things really start to get interesting. Which might make the first songs also more interesting on second listen. This is where the melodies and timing get a little more ‘abstract’ and the synths are amazing addition making it feel somewhat ‘flashy’ (in a good way). The guitar riff on track 5 is super nice, accompanied by singing with a lot of character. In general there is quit a nice relationship between the guitar and the singing, sometimes almost going ‘back and forth’. It calms down a little bit again in the middle, making for a soothing intermezzo. But the last 2 tracks pick the energy up and make it even more enticing. The last track works as a beautiful outro, with a little saxophone solo that blows you away. Amazing record, liked it way more than I expected. Can’t wait for a second listen!

Good hiphop album but not the best of it’s time period. Ice cube’s flow, delivery and lyricism are undeniable. It just hits so much harder when it’s on a Dre beat. Still very impressed by what Ice Cube does as a solo album and tracks like ‘It Was A Good Day’

I feel very mixed about this album. It has some great moments, mainly in the guitar work. But some songs just don’t attract me at all. Not bad, but also not good
