Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Sep 19 2023

Great musicianship.

Low-Life by New Order
Sep 20 2023

I’d never ‘got’ New Order first time round even though they are my era. Never got past the feeble vocals. Listening to this tonight though, while cooking, at one point round about track 4/5 I could see the appeal of the warbling synth angst.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Sep 21 2023

Great musicianship. Have to acknowledge that. Listened to it while running, I don’t think I could have sat and listened to it. It’s just not for me, eventually the duelling saxophones got on my nerves. There is just an element of self-congratulation that finally tires. However, if this is your kinda music, there is no doubt about the skill and talent involved

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Sep 22 2023

Familiarly grimly ironic lyrics. Brings a smile but such a grim world view

Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
Sep 25 2023

Classic album. Phil had the full package, no pun intended

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Sep 26 2023

Made the year before I was born. The lyrics haven’t aged well, very fey. The guitar playing is sublime and Simon’s voice. Garfunkel is to Simon and Ridgely is to Michael.

Parallel Lines by Blondie
Sep 27 2023

Has there ever been an album with more hits on it? I’d never heard ‘Will Anything Happen’ and it’s my song for this week. Never appreciated d how suited Debbie’s voice was to this music. Having said that, am amused to notice that some of the songs are less punky and more ‘musical theatre’

Heartattack And Vine by Tom Waits
Dec 19 2024

Marmite. Decent lyrics at times, but I just find the music incredibly plodding. Prefer the love ballads, but could do without the vagrant -coughing-up-sputum-into-a-gutter vibe.
