An early Queen album and kind of a boring one. Killer Queen still slaps, Tenement Funster sounds like a Who tribute band, Stone Cold Crazy is ridiculous and fun (I guarantee at least one King Gizard member loves that song), Misfire's riff between verses was so out of place it truly made me laugh. Many of the songs here sound very much like Queen wasn't sure where their sound was going.
It's silly and weird, but not in the way of future Queen albums, in a more accidental way. I don't think this album was trying to make me laugh as much as it did. Diverse, but not cohesive, still fun though.
Listen to the original mix. The 2022 mix isn't great.
It's the Dead Kennedys, doesn't get much more classic punk than this. These are all classic punk songs, and are all very political. They're also very straight forward, you can figure out the message of most songs here by simply reading the title. It's brash, aggressive, and breakneck, the thing we expect from punk. It's a solid album, no tracks are really weak or anything, but it's a very straight forward album and a little rough on the ears at times.
this is a foundational album for like 90% of music today. not much i can say other than that it holds up really well
The Who are kinda considered to be the og classic rock band, which makes listening to a full The Who album a strange experience. This album is really diverse. From the almost religious chanting in "It's a Boy" to the Beach Boys-like harmonizing on "Tommy Can You Hear Me?". It tells a story a bit more straight forward than most other rock concept albums. The music definitely holds up, it's packed with power and has plenty of variety to keep you interested. Absolutely worth a listen.
The New York rock revival of the 2000s led to some incredible bands with enduring legacies. In that vein Yeah Yeah Yeahs feel kinda forgotten. This album slaps though. A beautiful synthy alt rock masterwork full of high energy songs grounded by soft emotional tunes. If you've never heard Heads Will Roll or Skeletons, give them a listen. It is not my favorite Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, but it is absolutely worth your time.
A very interesting listen. A well done jazz/blues kinda album. Its got some ballads that hit well, and it manages to not drag between highlights. The unfortunate part of this album is that, unlike the legend Barry B. Benson, I do not like jazz. This album just lands flat for me.
I'm probably very biased on this one. I grew up on a lot of 80 and 90s alt rock, and Pearl Jam is very much a key pillar in that genre. For good reason though, this album is great. Most of the songs off this album are now considered rock classic. Kicking off with Once, followed by Even Flow and then Alive creates such an energetic start to this album.
Black remains one of the most beautiful and heartfelt songs ever recorded. This is the start of a beloved band and I don't think they could have made a better introduction.
ya know, the doors just never really did it for me.
Shoegaze meets disco-pop.
