1001 Albums Summary

Tightest harmonies, fascinating arrangements, beautiful lyrics.

This album alternates between the stupidest song I've ever heard and the greatest song I've ever heard. Despite some songs' success in exploring interesting guitar sounds and song structures, Tusk feels like an exercise in keeping up with musical trends rather than the band putting their best foot forward. I just don't really think Supertramp is for me. I don't particularly enjoy the keyboard/piano sounds and playing style within the context of the album, and its constant use undermines the bits of the album that I do enjoy. The lyrics are witty and whimsical, but constantly. I feel that those two elements should've been used with more moderation. Notable Tracks: Asylum Crime of the Century

The Joshua Tree's influence on pop and rock can't be understated. Exploration of rhythm and texture in deceptively simple songs.

It's real good. Gets a little one-note on Side A, but most of the songs are as close to flawless pop songs as can be. Notable Tracks (aside from the obvious hits): Love in the Dark All I Ask

Never been crazy about this one. Tarkus is prog that follows the defined conventions of prog extremely well, but doesn't do much to go beyond those conventions. That's always been odd to me, as prog is basically defined by experimentation. It's solid, boilerplate 'prog' music that doesn't really push boundaries. Nothing wrong with it, but not much to grab my attention among its contemporaries. Notable Tracks: A Time and Place
