I know this album really well, so it’s difficult to write about it. It’s always in the “top albums” lists and for good reason. It has some amazingly innovative tracks that pushed the boundaries of what could be done musically. You can really start to see the different personalities within the band and the influences that derived from their travels and interests. I’ve always found it to be a great album lyrically. Taxman has such a scathing tone, which seems really modern. There are some beautiful lyrics in more conventional songs like For No One. Tomorrow Never Knows is trippy and weird, which fits with the backwards samples. Then you have Yellow Submarine, which I think has very little going for it. I did have to sing it in school assemblies weekly, so that has given it a sense of familiarity and boredom that is not fair to Ringo.
