Figure 8
Elliott Smith
Elliot Smith has an amazingly haunting voice, he has a sense of melodrama about him that makes me feel uneasy. This sense of uneasiness is fueled even more knowing that this was his last album before his death, and the details of his death make this album even sadder. That being said, I really enjoyed some of the songs on the album, mainly "Wouldn't Mama Be Proud", "Better Be Quiet Now", and most of all "Can't Make a Sound". I honestly didn't enjoy a lot of the songs on this album, but can't make a sound is completely different, I feel that smith's voice and the background track create a perfect melody with this song. However, these few songs don't bring the whole albums up for me, I would rate this album a decent 2.5.

Not the biggest fan of this album, I think its just a bit outside my range of listening, I understand how influential and trend setting this album probably was in the 60s, but its for sure not for me. Most notably, I really liked "Sunshine of your Love", not really a surprise, that opening riff is iconic. overall I would probably give this album a 2.

Hybrid Theory
Linkin Park
Yeah man I fuck with this album, I always remembered hearing songs off this album in edits all over YouTube when I was younger, it also really surprised me that this album came out in 2000, I would've guessed 2005 at the very least, but this coming out in 2000 kinda made this album a pioneer for the punk rock/rap genre. There is a LOT of songs I learned that I really really like on this album, mainly "By Myself" and "A Place for My Head". I honestly have not heard either of these songs until today and I loved them. Obviously you have some of Linkin Park's biggest songs on here like "Crawling" and "In the End", and I loved those as well but I was pleasantly surprised with the rest of the album as well. It is hard for me to hear Linkin Park today and not think of Transformers, I feel like that was one of the first times hearing them when I was younger.
Yeah I loved this album overall, I give it a solid 4 overall, I'm really surprised how many songs I loved from them. Hope to hear more from them, RIP Chester Bennington.

Led Zeppelin
Ill be honest, I enjoy some Led Zeppelin from time to time, and I enjoyed this album for what it is, however this being their first album makes it seem like they haven't fully found their footing yet, I mean this was 1969. I would say that following Led Zeppelin albums are better and feature better tracks, however I don't think this album was bad by any means, just a little bit more boring than their following albums. Overall I would probably give this album like a 3 outta 5, not bad, just not my favorite either.

American Gothic
David Ackles
Yeah man, this is a bad album to come back to, Not my style of music at all, and i feel that this man's rhythm is all over the place. The pacing and flow of his music is hard to follow for most of his songs, with the BPM jumping all over the place, its hard to nail down how the music is supposed to make me feel. Some of these songs i could not even get past the 30 second mark because he is so quick to just DROWN his lyrics with religious references and remarks.
This is an album that I will not be revisiting ever again, except for MAYBE one song. That song being Love's Enough, it really does have a pleasant start, the way the piano sings is truly timeless, the lead-in to the chorus is inspirational. This song really aint half bad coming from such a hohum artist, but the rest of this album is a SLOG.
Fav song: Love's Enough

Prefab Sprout
You know this is my first time hearing of and listening to a lot of these band's music, this band included. Truthfully dont know much about Prefab Sprout, strange band name by the way, looking into them a little bit more, theres not much to see lol, they never seemed to pick up in popularity much, even in their time. Looking at the bands discography is just kinda sad, after 2003 the band really just seems to be the main singer left, being blinded by serious medical conditions, sad.
Welp, with that out of the way, their sound seems to be very influenced by early 80s funk, possibly even leaning more on the side of j-funk from that era, their beats sounding very similar to that of the likes of Miki Matsubara. But the way that it is executed comes off as amateur, I feel that the lead singer has a great voice, but just doesn't do enough with it to really pull me into any particular song. Would not listen to another song off this album again unfortunately.

Rust Never Sleeps
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Not the biggest Neil Young fan, gotta admit, i feel like most of his songs just kinda sound like a story being told with some strumming in the background, idk maybe its just not really for me. I acknowledge how huge he is though and how influential he was on the country rock genre back in the 70s. Now, i dont think every one of songs are bad, i think heart of gold is a classic for sure, i just think that this album is quite lacking.
Fav Song: Out of the Blue & Into the Black (good duo together, great opener and closer)

Kala
M.I.A.
Okay now THIS is a bop man, some of Kalas songs really just get you to move, very reggae recession funk, maybe even with some 80s Russian funk thrown in there. Im sitting here just jamming, rocking my head, only about half way through. Not surprised this album is so funky with the likes of Diplo and Timbaland producing the album. Some of the songs use some very unique instruments as well, I believe i here a didgeridoo in Mango Pickle Down River.
After finishing the album, yeah, this is a good one, not every song is amazing, but the ones that are slap, i mean Paper Planes alone has almost 1 billion streams on spotify, that song was HUGE in the late 2000s.
Fav Song: Jimmy (honorable mention is Paper Planes of course)

I Am a Bird Now
Antony and the Johnsons
This album was a hard listen, not that its bad, its beautiful, and haunting. The lead singer, ANOHNI, being a transwoman, clearly wrote this album about her life and her struggles knowing from a young age that she was not the boy everyone wanted her to be. The album is a tragic, sad, but triumphant listen, its not an album that i would listen to again, and thats okay, i dont think that its meant for me, but its hard to deny the beauty of these songs, the album itself feels like concept album from start of life to now, and its perfect like that.
I wanna take this time to talk about the final song of the album, Bird Guhl. This song may be a masterpiece from an objective standpoint, it is the magnum opus of this story, using the symbolism of becoming a bird, "growing" my wings, an allegory for finally being able to transition into what truly makes her happy, its beautiful, and in 2005 no less, this song alone is a 10/10 and makes the whole album for me.

oooooooooooooooooooooooo okayy, this is something special. This is some real nu-wave funk, and i LOVE it, im sitting here just absolutely grooving to this album. What an incredible voice maxwell has, what infectious funky beats he can make, this is truly a treat to listen to this album for the first time ever. The only downside is some of the songs just go on for a little too long, i dont think any song should come close to the 7 minute mark, thats overstaying your welcome just a little bit.
After finishing the album, some of the songs arent as good lol. But still this album is a banger!
Fav Song:Dancewitme (but honestly the first 5 songs of the album are all fantastic)
