Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
Oct 16 2023

A very sweet and chill listen. Feels a bit disjointed with the contrast of funk + pessimist (Superstition, Maybe Your Baby) with his ballad style optimism (your are the sunshine, you and I, etc.) Definitely enjoying exploring more of Stevie's discography w my limited knowledge of just top hits! 3.5 rounded up Maybe Your Baby - so fun and funky, seemed like precursor to superstition Superstition - a known banger, kinda comes as a surprise given the overall theme of loving + hopeful I Believe - loved this as ending to the album

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Oct 17 2023

Ugh I wish I was more of Jazz girlie. Couldn't really get into this. Kinda cool that it was a live performance though!

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Oct 18 2023

Unfortunately, I am a Smiths fan (not Morrisey okay). Pretentious, sad girls unite. But actually this album wasn't even that sad. The upbeat melodies + guitar contrast sad lyrics and make the depression quite palatable. Frankly Mr. Shankly - lol, very much relate to this after quitting my corporate job Never Had No One Ever - good sad Cemetry Gates - "weird lover Wilde" GAY Bigmouth Strikes Again - "now I know how joan of arc felt" drama queen but same Vicar in a Tutu - I don't get the abrupt ending tbh There is a light that never goes out - classic but might be slightly overrated? Some girls are bigger than others - this is a no from me 4.5 rounded up

Disintegration by The Cure
Oct 19 2023

Yas to more pretentious sad girl music. I do love The Cure, so excited to dive into this album. My first thoughts are that it feels very scenic and more like background chill vibes, which I still really enjoy. All songs have a super long intro, which I feel like I can get annoyed by. Both album and songs seem longer than they need to be? The album starts strong for me and trails off by the end, feeling like songs were similar to the last. Didn't love: Last Dance, Close Down, Prayers for Rain Loved: Plainsong - good for high vibes Pictures of you Lovesong - slaps Lullaby - most diff on the album, really enjoyed though Disintegration Untitled

The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips
Oct 20 2023

I honestly can't stand Wayne's voice, and makes it incredibly hard for me to listen. Sounds like a pitcher version of the lead singer of Death Cab. I did really like the instrumentals in some, like Race for the Prize, but overall, it was not an enjoyable listen for me. Honestly, interlude-type situations can be so hit or miss and The Observer was a definite miss for me

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Oct 22 2023

So much fun. How have I not listened to more of McCartney's solo work?? Did get a bit too slow and repetitive sounding for me in the middle-end. But overall really good stuff.

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Oct 23 2023

Weird screaming. I like to look at the curated spotify playlists that have the artists musics - this one was stoner rock so seems fitting for me? Actually into it once I got past the screams but probs not something I’d come back to

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Oct 24 2023

Perfect album to work to. Know and love Northern Sky. Also loved Hazey Jane II & I, Bryter Layter, and Poor Boy. Curious why II came before I

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Oct 27 2023

My brain chemistry changed at 9 years old hearing Heads Will Roll for the first time. One of the greatest dance songs of this generation. Obsessed w this full album. Such chaotic, spooky vibes. Everything I love.
