Moving Pictures by Rush
Nov 23 2023

There are some good things to be said about this record. The obvious point is the musicianship. It is impressive. Geddy Lee's bass tone is frigging amazing. It truly bends my mind to think that this is a three-piece. The proggyness of offends me, though. Songs about Tom Sawyer??? No. I can't deal with it. I find that so off-putting that I can't see myself listening to it again, despite all the positive things it brings.

Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Nov 24 2023

A beautiful piece of work. A real melting pot of cultures and ideas. His lyricism and tone effortlessly portrays snapshots of life and captures vignettes of daily life. The lack of dynamic left it a bit flat as a cohesive work, but it thrilled none the less. Solid.

Immaculately composed and a feat of production. You never know what is next with this album. It does sound a bit dated in places, but in many ways, the remarkable way it has been put together will make it compelling for many years to come.

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Dec 01 2023

There are good things about this record. The vocal performance and the stands of classical that Lord and Blackmore bring is compelling. It's just so bloody 'rock' though. And so English. There's no swagger or sex. It makes you realise how funky and American Led Zeppelin were.

White Light / White Heat by The Velvet Underground
Dec 08 2023

Amazing record. A noisy-weird-rock n roll-avant garde mess, and it's a beautiful thing. This is when the VU are at their best, and this album captures it brilliantly. So many brilliant bands can be traced back to this record. It's not as good as their first album, but it still bangs.
