1001 Albums Summary

Fun album, though i feel like there was a serious missed opportunity. The best moments were when the band gets weird with song structure/instrumentation, with "Mr Blue Sky" being the obvious crown jewel. Too many of the other songs have very ordinary classic rock song structures, and they dont hit the same heights as some of their other hit songs like "Dont Bring Me Down". I do feel like if the mixed some of the songs to be more vocal forward, it might have felt a little better. Overall fun listen though!

Quintessential "get on your harley and roll" kind of music. Very easy cruising music, if not repetitive. Unfortunately, it peaks with its opening track "Highway to Hell" and never quite hits the same high, though there are a few other solid stand outs (If you want blood; Shot down in Flames). Vibe: 4/5 Benefitted greatly by a great opening which sets the tone. The rest of the album is an easy listen, just a bit repetitive at times. Mixing: 5/5 They maximized each instrument and vocals Pacing: 2/5 If you are gonna have an absolute banger of an opener, you better follow it up with some heat, unfortunately that fire slowly but surely dies out through the rest of the run time. Creativity: 2.5/5 My biggest issue with AC/DC in general. Outside of a few landmark tracks, so much of the discography feels like rinse/repeat. I understand wanting to have a signature sound, but you can achieve a signature sound while varying up sound structure, changing up instrumentation a touch. At the same time, i cant really blame AC/DC, they knew what they were and leaned into it.

Kind of a timeless sound, very easy listen. There is a reason Neil Young is quoted as a major influence to so many modern artists. Very much enjoyed this!
