1001 Albums Summary

It was really interesting listening to this album front to back. All I could hear was the influence to the bands I listened to in the mid-late 90s and early 2000s. Especially metalcore, post-hardcore, and even some skate punk. I absolutely recognize this album's significance, but I also recognize that I'm just not this kind of metal fan. My favorite track was probably the instrumental Orion which I think is one of the reasons we have bands like Coheed and Cambria and Thrice.

It is absolutely wild to me that “Papa” was a number 1 single at almost 12 minutes long. I enjoyed the funk way more than the slower R&B and ballads. Though I do like that the two sides of the album are very different with side A being all funk and side B R&B. Side B was pretty boring except for the last track “Do Your Thing” which brought back the funk elements.

I forgot how important this album was and the huge impact it had when it first came out. Meteora is better IMO but this album still slaps. I was pleasantly surprised by the non-single deep cut tracks.

Iconic album. Don't have much to add, it's such a great listen and impeccable vibes.
