1001 Albums Summary

Sounds like it was made by like... a cool frog? v funky Black Cow - great bassline feels somewhat dated; jazz influenced, very seventies (harmonies on Aja)

It has great basslines and vocals, but it does feel a bit like a product of its time (production-wise). It is very groovy and laid back but with intense, sharp lyricism. Great horns arrangments (esp. on Billy Jack and So in Love). Obviously - there are touches of gospel throughout the record, too (i.e. Jesus - the spoken intro kind of sounds like a half-sung sermon or testimony), there are callbacks to the special place of gospel in Black American culture. My standout tracks are: So in Love, Hard Times.
