A fantastic album, one I already had and have listened to a ton of times. A lot of good songs, and then La Grange really jumps out. But it holds together as an album, no skipping tracks at all. Also, I could listen to Billy Gibbons play guitar all day long.
Some good, iconic songs. Also, some really lame funk metal slap bass that no one but Les Claypool can make interesting. I like their later albums better.
11 out of 5. Stone cold classic. Even if War Pigs was the only good song on this album, it would still be legendary. It is not the only good song on the album. * I already had this one on vinyl
This was a smooth listen, although Redding's version of "My Girl" just flat-out shines. I'm not sure if I'd ever throw this on purposefully, but I also wouldn't be upset at all if anything from this album came up anywhere I was at.
Unfortunately, if you were paying attention to music when "Play" came out, it's been overplayed. There are good songs, and there are songs that sound like Enya with harder drums. I wasn't into electronica back then, and there's maybe a handful of songs out of that style that I would willingly listen to.
I had this CD when it came out (I had nearly all the CDs that came out in this era), but nothing had stuck with me other than Shadowboxer and Criminal. This was likely an album that I put on as background music, I don't remember the back half of this album at all. I had mixed feelings about this one - the singles were great (and I really liked Carrion this time around), it's got a moody late-night vibe to it. But her albums have never quite clicked with me (which is a me problem). I'm glad I listened to it, but it's probably not something I'll throw on on purpose again.
Look, the well-known songs here are absolute beasts, and the album tracks keep that vibe going. It's just that if I'm listening to the Go-Gos, I'm probably going with the greatest hits. But I very much enjoyed this one.
I love this album. I was familiar with a couple of songs from it (Roadrunner and Pablo Picasso), but the whole thing is just what my ears want.
\m/ Excellent hard rock album. I was okay with the first half, and then the 2nd half picked up, and then the closer crushed it.
Meh.
I'm pretty familiar with TV on the Radio, but this is the album I reach for the least. After giving this one some attention, that might have been a bit of a mistake. I'll have to listen to it more and see if I like it as much as their later stuff, but from this listen there's not really any good reason I can think of that I wouldn't choose this one.
I'm not sure it's an album exactly, but there's legendary songs and great energy all the way through!
